Sunrider VitaShake Makes A Healthy Fuss-Free Breakfast Meal

I’ve found another fuss-free breakfast option: The VitaShake meal replacement shake from Sunrider. I’ve been consuming this in the morning with an apple or an apricot and it keeps my hunger at bay for up to four hours until lunch time.

It’s pretty substantial and definitely performs better to keep my tummy from growling compared to some of the other oat or brown rice powder I’ve been drinking. This can also be mixed into a smoothie but obviously I haven’t done that because it would have been…too much fuss. LOL.

Anyway, this is the first time I’m trying a meal replacement shake. I’ve always been a little curious about it especially after hearing an ex-colleague talked about how it helped in his weight loss. Yep, meal replacement shakes are a big feature in many weight management programs. But I wanted to try it without having to sign up for a $3k package.

Whole-food concentrate goodness
Meal replacement shakes aren’t that cheap though. But that’s also because they’re formulated to be nutritious so that you can consume it like a meal…thus the name. So they contain quite a bit of vitamins and minerals.

In the case of VitaShake, it is a whole-food concentrate containing concentrated herbal extracts, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. No chemically processed, animal-based protein powders, or genetically modified soy (soy isolate). I also learned that the soy protein in VitaShake is similar to super-concentrated tofu, thus making this meal replacement shake easily digestible for both young and old.

I was initially skeptical about the taste but surprising, the cocoa flavored VitaShake is pretty tasty. I drink it with room temperature water but I was told it taste better when chilled.

Few calories and no cholesterol
For those concerned about calories, VitaShake contains fewer than 100 calories a serving, has no cholesterol, and is formulated with very low sodium and very low sugar. It does not contain artificial sweetener and is not very sweet. You can add a little honey if you like it sweeter. What I sometimes do is to add a little of the VitaFruit which I’ll show you in a bit.

Ingredients
Here’s the full ingredient list for the Cocoa flavored VitaShake:
Coix fruit, Fructose, Soy protein (non-GMO, non-isolate), Alkali processed cocoa powder, Fructooligosaccharide, Natural flavor, Chinese yam, Fox nut, Maltodextrin, Lotus seed, Lotus root, Waterlily bulb, Potassium phosphate, Calcium phosphate, Imperate root, Magnesium oxide, Stearic acid, Carrageenan, Calcium carbonate, Lecithin, Xanthan gum, Manganese (yeast), Niacinamide ascorbate, Chromium (yeast), Iron (fumarate), Molybdenum (yeast), Selenium (yeast), Vegetable oil, Vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate), Zinc oxide, Copper gluconate, Calcium pantothenate, Vitamin A (beta carotene), Vitamin B6 (pyroxidine hci), Thiamin (mononitrate), Riboflavin, Folic acid, Biotin, Iodine (potassium iodide), Vitamin K (menadione), Vitamin D (ergocalciferol) and Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamine).

I think VitaShake is practical for on-the-go feeding, being all portable and convenient. Just pour water, shake, and it’s ready to be gulped down. You can also stir it like you would with milk powder but the shaking is a novel idea. Plus, some people may like the idea of drinking shakes from a bottle.

It’s also a great meal replacement shake if you’re looking for one to help with your weight management. However, do be aware that you need to understand the principles behind using something like that as a meal replacement if you’re aiming for weight loss.

Sunrider VitaFruit
I’ve also been introduced to two other supplements from Sunrider that goes well with VitaShake. Of the two, I like VitaFruit most. This is an all-natural herbal juice concentrate for good nutrition and beauty formulated with natural nutrients preserved in their whole-food form.

Key ingredients of VitaFruit include: sea buckthorn fruit, luo han guo (monk fruit), dates, lemon oil, and wintermelon.

The sea buckthorn fruit caught my eye as I understand that it serves to nourish the skin, hair, and nails, support the intestines and aid in digestion, support weight loss and cognitive function, and provide overall health benefits.

Like I’d mentioned, I sometimes mix a bit of VitaFruit into my VitaShake. It can also be mixed with other Sunrider herbal beverages like Fortune Delight and Calli. If you prefer to take it on its own, just mix it with water.

Sunrider VitaDophilus
Another product that I can add to VitaShake is VitaDophilus, a probiotic with an apple base that supplies a minimum of 20 million live culture bacteria. I can also consume this by dissolving it in water or sprinkle the power on cereal or salads.

Ingredients include: Apple Fruit Powder, Apple Fruit Flake, and Lactobacillus Acidophilus

Sunrider Fortune Delight
Besides the Vita family, I was also recommended Fortune Delight, a concentrated natural health drink powder formula made with green tea and other herbs. Fortune Delight is pitched as a healthy coffee substitute as it contains minimum caffeine so it’s great for breakfasts too.

What I found interesting is that the drink supposedly delivers alkaline properties, helping to maintain healthy pH balance in the body.

Flavors available are regular, lemon, cinnamon, peach, or raspberry and ingredients include: Camellia Extract, Chrysanthemum Flower Extract, Jasmine Extract, Lalang Grass Root Extract and less than 1% natural flavors.

About Sunrider
Sunrider has been around since 1982 and lists over a thousand franchise stores internationally. In Singapore I spotted 8 outlets located in prime areas and malls. Besides the products I’d mentioned, they carry a number of herbal foods, beverages and health supplements. They also have skin care and cosmetic products which contain the finest vegetable-based ingredients and herbal extracts to nourish, cleanse and balance the skin. It’s good to know that Sunrider skin care and cosmetics do not use animal products, mineral oil, or petroleum by-products which clog the pores and damage the skin!

After a conversation with the store manager, I am aware that Sunrider is founded by world renowned Taiwan-born herbalist, Dr. Tei-Fu Chen and his wife, Dr. Oi-Lin Chen. This is a US brand with most of their products made in the United States. Besides Singapore, they also have presence in over 50 countries and regions around the world.
