Would you detox to lose weight & feel good?

I’ve finally completed my 14-day detox program on Sunday and am ready to share more updates in terms of what I’ve lost or gained. Strictly speaking, I wasn’t following any of the detox diets like juicing or water fast. In fact, I started out thinking that I could just rely on the Kordel’s Detox-Cleanze and maintained my diet. However, as I progressed, I made gradual changes and by the end of the first week, I lost 2kg and my tummy was looking really flat.

Losing weight
Now, losing weight isn’t what I’ve planned to achieve because I’m skinny according to most people. I weigh 44kg before detoxification and now, I weigh 42kg. So for people who want to lose weight, you maybe happy to know that going through detox can help you do that. So besides taking Kordel’s Detox-Cleanze, what else was I eating?

My so-called detox diet
First, I was drinking lots of water. I woke up each morning drinking 2 cups of warm water. During some mornings, I was drinking up to 1 litre and by the end of the day, I would have easily consumed about 3 litres of water. I maintained my usual breakfast, consisting of a cup of tea and two pieces of softgrain bread with raspberry or strawberry jam. For lunch, it was either porridge or a bowl of soupy kway teow and a plate of fruits or sometimes, just the latter alone. In the afternoons, I’ll make myself a cup of green tea. As for dinner, it was the usual consisting of a combination of vegetables, fish and meat but I cut down my intake of rice. Well, this actually wasn’t very much different from my usual diet.

Cutting down on sugar intake
The biggest shift for me was cutting down my sugar intake. Although I maintained my breakfast, I cut down on the sugar used in my tea, as well as the jam on my bread. By the second week, I avoided all pastries and most processed food and relied on fruits or pitted prunes for my sugar fix. Even then, I was careful not to overdo with my consumption of those as they are still sweet and I’ve learnt that anything sugary is a big bane for me and would cause my skin to break out.

Small diet changes can produce some positive responses
I started reading The New Detox Diet by Elson M. Hass, M.D. in week two and learnt that what I was doing was on the right track as making mild changes from our eating habits can produce some responses although more dramatic dietary shifts can produce a more profound cleansing. In addition, adding supplements like in the case of me using Kordel’s Detox-Cleanze is good because they can also stimulate detoxification.

Clearing out toxins internally
One of the good things that happened for me, which also explained my persistence in the program was that I was able to go to the toilet every day. Before I started out my detox plan, I had major constipation issues and was visiting the loo only once in two or three days. Yes, I was full of toxins then!

Renewed energy and motivation level
For those who followed my tweets, you may have seen my earlier comments about feeling tired when I started out the detox. The changes were slow in the first week but by day 12, I woke up feeling really energized and motivated – something I’ve never felt in years! I was feeling so good that I even caught myself dancing to the music on the radio. Even my husband noticed the change. The good mood has continued till now although I still nag at my child on most days. And something quite amazing happened too – I didn’t experience any PMS prior to my menses!

No visible changes in skin complexion
My objective in embarking on a detox program is really to clear up my acne. However, I have yet to notice anything significant on that front. In fact, I reported that I broke up big time after the first week. The good thing is that I didn’t see any more purging afterwards so I’ll like to give myself another one or two more weeks to see how it’s working out. But one of the most valuable lessons I learned from this detoxification is being mindful of my body and really taking good care of it, especially what to feed it.

So you wanna detox too?
So now, I’m all for another detoxification program as I’ve learnt that it’s good to rest our body from time to time. But the next time I do it, I’ll attempt a more rigorous detox diet, perhaps one along the lines of fasting. And for those of you who are keen to attempt detox and don’t quite know how to start, try reading The New Detox Diet as it has various recommendations – from sugar detox, caffeine detox to the full-fledge detox diets. Oh, and one more thing. You’ll need to persevere and stick to your guns even when tempted by people close to you – like my ‘wicked’ husband in my case!

I can’t do detox right now, due to my spiraling appetite. But I did noticed a slight breakout the next day after downing a can of coke because I was depressed and the weather is making me thirsty.

  2. sesame says:

You have to do it only when you’re ready. Well, at least you had a caffeine detox…

  3. AtelierGal says:

    I quit coffee for vanity..:)

  4. Happy Feet says:

The husband part is so funny! I know what you mean because whenever I embark on something that needs major discipline like dieting and exercise, my husband would be the greatest temptor and damper….. Darn!

  5. pf1123 says:

Wow! I’m glad the detoxifications lifted your mood. ?

    Maybe I should try this!!!

I think fasting occassionally is a good idea.

Yesterday I fasted lunch for religious purpose. I felt a bit tired at day end around knock off time. But I was fine. Not too hungry. Just some feel like eating kind of urge, but nothing that is too much to be ignored. I was able to concentrate at work.

But today I ate lunch and felt SO sleepy after lunch. Can’t compare to my productivity yesterday. I should have fasted today as well.

While it’s good to lose weight due to detox ad flushing out toxins, it’s quite alarming to drop to 42kg. Might have to check if this weight is unhealthy and if so how to change the diet so that it is healthy yet allows you to gain an appropriae weight. Was under the impression that being too light or too heavy isn’t too good for cardiac health.

  7. zhenling says:

since you didn’t experience any improvements to your skin, i don’t think i will try it =/

i did experience good bowel movements when i tried royal jelly though. results were almost immediate. but too expensive to keep up haha

  8. Vonvon says:

The flat tummy part makes me wanna detox!! Lately I have been losing some weight, but tummy still quite big, and only yesterday my bro and his girlfriend were asking if I am having #2…sigh….

  9. debbie says:

i haven’t gotten on the detox craze but a couple years back when parasite cleanses were popular, i did one (with very scary results) and the amount of cystic acne i had decreased in the long run.

  10. sesame says:

    That’s a good excuse… ?

  11. sesame says:

    Yours is also “wicked”?

  12. sesame says:

It might be good to do that occasionally if it helps you improve your productivity. But sometimes when you work, you burn quite a bit of energy just using your brains so best to have some backup food in case…

  13. sesame says:

You think 2kg is of concern? But yes, I definitely don’t like the idea of losing more weight. I’m quite petite so the weight seems okay for my built but really, I could do with some flesh. I’m on the hunt for healthy snacks now.

  14. sesame says:

I’ll give my skin another 2 weeks to see if I have new breakouts. If no, then the detox did help. Well, I’m hoping for that.

Actually prunes are good for relieving constipation but I just can’t eat too much of it due to the sugar.

  15. sesame says:

Oh…maybe some exercises will help with that. I had a bulging tummy for many years…and it’s these 2 years that it subsided due to my weight loss.

  16. sesame says:

I’ve read about some of those parasite cleanse or close to similar ones and yes, they look a bit scary and I don’t dare to try. But it’s good it helped with your acne issues.

  17. pf1123 says:

Yes. To be frank, from your photos, you seem to look on the boney side already.

  18. Amarise says:

I’m actually going to try colon hydrotherapy as I know it could help regulate my digestive system. If you were to ask me a few years ago to get one I would say no. Now my mindframe is that I want to feel well and know that there are ways to feel better while treating my body good.

  19. sesame says:

*sigh* And I was happy that my hairstylist recently commented that my face seems a little fatter. Think realistically I can’t detox as often as I like. And you know what? I can’t eat avocado now! It breaks me out…seems it’s a “heaty” fruit or something.

  20. sesame says:

Our priorities change over time…I used to be like you. I would never have considered detox even a year ago. I felt okay but as I age, I think my body has accumulated too much toxins.

  21. Mint says:

hi sesame, ur detox program looks gd.. n i’m trying it out as of yesterday.. kind of feel lighter now coz i’m not taking in so much carbo? btw i’m oso hving some acne prob n i’m seeing my doc for an antibiotic called tetracycline and a topical antibiotic lotion called Dalacin T.. i tink these gv rather gd result.. perhaps u can try them out? =)

  22. Happy Feet says:

    Same Same

  23. Sukidoll says:

Sounds good! I don’t think I could do the fasting though, I get very crabby if I don’t get to eat.

    *inhales some cookies*

  24. sesame says:

I’m not sure about seeing a doctor for my acne issues. It isn’t that serious but it’s frustrating. I also prefer to deal with the problems causing the acne than to use just topical application products. I’ll see how it goes.

  25. sesame says:

    Haha…I see your point! ?

  26. Leon says:

I am on a Coconut Diet now and I think I am experiencing healing crisis. Will update if I see any drastic result.

  27. joy says:

i think this post is really good as i having been hearing my friend undergoing detox programme. I want to try it during june, so am gathering information now

  28. Hayashi says:

I too is trying hard to get myself into detox program since early this year for the sake of my mild acne. Drinking water for about 2 to 3 litres per day and taking “wheatgrass w/ alfafa” supplementary about 2 to 3 pills per day. No doubt visiting the toilet more. Also getting fussier on what food to eat and avoid. I got no major changes to my weight. In fact 0.5kg heavier -.-. Sesame, is 42kg consider underweight? With my height of 164cm, my friends commented that my weight of 46.5kg is little too light. Anyway, recently, I got few acne breakout on my right face again. Curse the PMS. But I do strongly believe detox program would aid our acne problem. At least maintain if not better.

  29. crystal says:

There are a lot of detoxes out there and I feel that detoxing for a week or so would help a bit, there are detoxes or so like

“meat detoxing” not eating meat for a week,
“milk detoxing” drink milk everyday for a week at certain time to gain benefits.

I don’t know if I would try this one that you mentioned because I am already quite skinny. Haha : ).

  30. sesame says:

I’m really looking forward to reading your updates. Not sure I can ever stomach coconut oil.

  31. sesame says:

Great…read up so that you’ll know what you want and what to expect. Btw, I got your email but my main system is giving me problems so I’ll try to reply you later today or tomorrow.

  32. sesame says:

I don’t know if 42kg is underweight…when I took those machine with my height input, it’s stated as normal. But for your height, 46kg seems rather light.

Hope our acne will go away soon!

  33. sesame says:

Ah…it didn’t occur to me about the weight losing part when I started this. Well, see what’s your bane as in which food is causing your problems…I remember reading you’re acne-prone so perhaps try a sugar detox?

  34. jolie says:

hi, may i know the price of kordel? is it available in local pharmacies like watsons?

  35. sesame says:

You can get the Kordel’s Detox-Cleanze at Guardian or Watsons for $71.25 thereabout. I purchased it when there was a 20% sale at Watsons.

  36. chenyze says:

eh, so your detox wasn’t really cold-turkey style, but you were eating quite normally (albeit more healthily) and taking the Kordel supplements concurrently? *sigh* i would love to try. I wonder if doing it in exam time is a bad thing though…

my boyfriend is the “evil” person in my case. we both love rich foods but he’s worse and he’s been tempting me with coffee during my last no-coffee attempt )=

  37. sesame says:

No, not cold turkey…can’t do that yet and may not be a good idea if I’m going to lose more weight through that method.

Try it after your exams is over when you’re more relaxed.

  38. valerie says:

I just started on greenlife daily cleanse but the problem is my diet ? i judt had a large coke and 3 sausages for dinner. how do i control. the temptation?

  39. Sesame says:

    Hmm…you’ll need to discipline. ?

  40. nice says:
