Burt’s Bees Very Volumizing Shampoo
I fell out of love with Burt’s Bees after they were bought over by Clorox in 2007 but this Burt’s Bees Very Volumizing Pomegranate & Soy Shampoo is making me love the brand all over again! It’s rocking good stuff and until now, I still can’t believe that a natural shampoo free of Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate can give my fine limp hair volume and also control my greasy scalp at the same time!
I’ve never harboured much hopes to find a natural shampoo that can work on my peculiar hair condition. This is why while I avoided SLS in my skin care products, I’ve never been adversed to it in my shampoos. However, Phytocedrat that I was using did not give my hair volume and somehow, Redken Headstrong, the other shampoo I alternate with, seems to have lost its volumizing magic.
Fast moving best seller at Sephora in ION Orchard
So when I saw how quickly Burt’s Bees Very Volumizing Pomegranate & Soy Shampoo appears to be moving off Sephora’s best sellers’ shelf space, I decided to get it. It’s S$18, which is in the same price range I pay for my current shampoos.
Delicious sweet scent with good foaming abilities
Okay, I like the fact that this contains pomegranate because it would mean the smell should be delicious. True enough, this shampoo comes with a refreshingly sweet smell and is such a joy to use every morning. I was initially worried that this won’t foam well since it doesn’t contain SLS. But the coconut and sunflower oils do a great job of creating a very rich lather! I don’t even have to use more compared to the shampoos that I’ve been using.
Removes buildup and provides volume
According to information from their website, the pomegranate blended with natural cleansers made from coconut and sunflower oils cleanses gently, removing buildup, while soy amino acids adhere to hair fibers to lift and separate hair, leaving it soft, shiny and full of volume. In fact, I actually felt my hair being thickened while shampooing. And that’s how this very volumizing shampoo is able to transform my fine, limp hair into thicker looking and voluminous hair with extra body. The most surprisingly effect is that my scalp is not as oily as before and I can even go out without using my dry shampoo. The only con is that I felt some resistance when I combed my hair while it was wet but otherwise, my hair looked shiny, soft and bouncy after the usual blow drying.
97.2% natural ingredient list
Apart from being sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate free, Burt’s Bees Very Volumizing Pomegranate & Soy Shampoo is also free from paraben and phthalate. The ingredients in this shampoo include water, decyl glucoside, lauryl glucoside, coco-betaine, coco-glucoside, glyceryl oleate, honey, glycine soja (soybean) protein, glycerin, sucrose laurate, betaine, glucose, fragrance, punica granatum (pomegranate) extract, moringa pterygosperma seed extract, soy amino acids, xanthan gum, citric acid, glucose oxidase, lactoperoxidase.
Overall summary
Looks like my chances of going totally into natural and organic products are a lot higher now that I’ve found this shampoo! I’m totally pleased with the results on my hair and I would definitely recommend Burt’s Bees Very Volumizing Pomegranate & Soy Shampoo if you’re looking for a similar product to give your hair more volume. Although it cost more here at S$18 in Sephora ION Orchard, but it’s totally value for money considering the large 350ml bottle plus the wonderful effects. A conditioner is also available but I did not get it.

I hope you’ll like it. I really love this shampoo now.
owhh… i hope Burt’s Bees available in Malaysia… ? …
sounds good… but my scalp kind of oily… do u think its good for oily scalp?
Hi, do you have any recommendation of a non-volumising shampoo for oily scalp?
I hope some retail shop bring the brand in. It was not easily available here before but now it’s much better.
My scalp is oily. So oily that I need to apply dry shampoo a few hours after shampoo. So yes, this works too. I don’t need need so much dry shampoo now.
I used Phytocedrat. It was kind of okay – keep my scalp clean for a few hours – but my ends were rather dry.
Ah.. I’m going to try getting it later!
Hope you’ll like it!
Boy you are mean. Making me crave for so many Burt’s Bees products! Not good with my shopping ban.
Hope to try this someday though. We don’t have it here.
i had similar concerns about non sls shampoos for oily scalps. i guess this is worth a try because it’s almost half the price of my schwarzkopf deep cleansing shampoo. a quick question, did you have to wash your hair twice? my scalp’s really kind of oily so even with a chemical shampoo i have to wash twice…
Can i find this in Malaysia
Haha…mean is what you get when you read beauty and fashion blogs…there’re always temptations and more temptations.
When shampooing each time? Yes, if it doesn’t lather up too well or sometimes I want my hair to be cleaner.
Not sure…but from other commenters, it seems not yet.
thanks… u know my scalp is so oily that even after washing my hair in the morning.. my fringe is always shiny and super glossy by the end of the day after work.. sad! so u wash ur hair once a day or twice? not good to do twice rite?
I wash mine once a day. Twice could be too drying.
Have you tried using dry shampoo? It helps me. Anyway, look out for my post next week about an oily scalp treatment. It seems quite good.
After this review, I’m excited to go give it a try! It’s always nice to find a great new shampoo that you love, thank you!
Hope you’ll find success with it if you do try it.
Don’t i know it. I knew i could never look back after starting to read blogs but this is bad! My fingers are so itchy all the time! And i have been buying like a shopaholic this past few months! Golly me.
Congrats on the top 50!!
Thanks Abby!
Hi Sesame,
I know this is not related to the Burt’s Bees Volumizing shampoo, but since I know how much you like using organic and natural products, I just want to ask if you ever heard of John Masters Organics Line? I’ve heard great reviews recently on their shampoos, conditioners, and especially the Shine On Leave In Treatment recently.
I forgot to add that many people apply Argan Oil (either 100% organic, or through products such as the Kea Repairing Hair Serum – which is very pricey) religiously to their hair, and it doesn’t weight down fine hair using sparingly.
I have only tried JM’s skincare – the vit C serum and their Mandarin Maximum moisturizer. Never tried their haircare range although I read some good reviews. I find the price range high…
That’s interesting. I usually hear olive oil but never about argan. It’s also rather expensive!
Ohhh~~ i m so sad.. whn i went to ION on Sat, the shampoo was sold out.. only left the conditioner.. It smells great very sweet n nice. Where else can i get this shampoo?
Oh no more? Wow, it’s that popular! I don’t remember seeing this at the Chinatown shop I used to buy my Burt’s Bees supplies or at whoopeekiddies.com either. Did you ask Sephora when they’ll bring in the new stock?
Yes, the argan oil is definitely expensive. I also have heard of amla (I believed it’s also called Indian gooseberry) oil as well. I am torn whether or not I should get the JM Shine On Leave In Treatment. My hair is color-treated and I blow dry every other day, so it gets dry. Yet, my hair’s oily naturally. So it’s such a dilemma for me to fine something that doesnt weight down my hair yet moisturize the ends at the same time.
I do want to try this Burt’s Bees Volumn Shampoo. I just recently bought the L’Oreal Sulfate-free Volumn Shampoo (the weird pink color bottle) and it works ok so far.
Ah I see your dilemma cos that’s something I face too. My hair was dry with daily blow drying and using Phytocedrat plus dry shampoo to control the oily scalp. It seems better using Burt’s Bees now…hopefully it will last. I don’t like conditioners of any sort cos it will weigh down my hair too.
I bought the burts bees shampoo & conditioner in “more moisture” after reading this and recieved a free gift of products at david jones. I realllyyyy love it more than the john masters products i usually use=)I actually can’t wait to wash my hair again…haha :S ?
HI!
After your review i went down to get it in the more moisture one, as the volumizing one seemed to have quite a bit of added fragance.
hope this works for me as i have oily scalp too!(:
Hope the moisturizing one will work for you. I like the volumizing one. Works great for me.
I went to buy this shampoo after reading the review.
For the first 1 week, I noticed that my scalp was not as oily however I also noticed that I was losing more hair when I was shampooing.
After 1 week of using the shampoo, I also realised that my scalp had started to produce EVEN MORE oil then when I was using my previous shampoo.
?
Oh what a shame! It works well to volumize but though it did not say it worked well to regulate the oil, it helped me a lot. So far, have been working well. I guess our hair conditions are very different then. But definitely surprised that you lost more hair using this.
It sounds really good and I am keen to try it. Btw, what do you mean by a ‘dry shampoo’?
It’s shampoo in powder form. Usually used by people who cannot wash their hair. Check my review here https://www.vivawoman.net/2008/05/25/klorane-dry-shampoo-for-a-good-hair-day/.
I see. That’s so cool. I’ve heard about shampoo in powder form. So does this replace your shampoo or do you use it before or after your shampoo? Thank you for the enlightenment!
You can use it before or after a shampoo. Usually people use it when they can’t wash their hair eg. some Asian women after conceiving. For me, I use it after shampoo to keep my oily hair under control and give it more volume.
Ladies,
where can I get the Burt’S Bee products and shampoo?
I am new
?
Where are you based? If you’re in Singapore, you can try Sephora at ION.
hi,
just to let you know Sephora’s having a 2 for $20 offer for this shampoo for their post christmas sale. have no idea when the offer is ending tho. bought 2 bottles as my nature’s gate shampoo is finishing soon.
Oh thanks for letting me know! ? My Burt’s Bees is running low. Hope I can find some time to get to Sephora soon.
Here you can buy it at walmart for $8.
Just wondering is this drying because I have very dry hair and I can only use gentle shampoos. ty
No, don’t find it drying…but then again, I have oily scalp.
This sounds fab but I do have one question: does the “soy” ingredient raise any hormonal concerns? You know, the web threads about how soy (esp. unfermented soy) causes cancer and unbalances hormones when ingested long-term…scalp is an organ and we shampoo pretty often…any thoughts/research to share? thanks a bunch
I know the danger of soy when ingested but I have no idea that it’ll cause problems when applied topically. But I would need to run some search to see if I can find anything.
Thanks – your research is always very good!
Hey…is it still in stock at sephora??? aaaaaaaaaaa…..
is it still in stock in sephora?? is it only available at sephora SG??
It should be…I saw it about a month ago.
I have very fine and thin hair that is oily too. I use Moroccan Oil which is a treatment that contains argan oil (third on the list). What I like about it is that it comes in a ‘light’ formula for fine or light colored hair. I put a little on my hands and rub into just the ends of my damp hair. I love the smell of it too. I live in a pretty dry area, but I don’t see why it shouldn’t work for you too.
damn…$18 for Burt’s Bees shampoo??? At my local grocery store they sell it for $5 for the same size!!! You are paying waaaay too much for that. I bet Amazon has it for cheap as well.
In addition, the ingredients list isn’t that great. After the foaming agents, fragrance is the first?? Not so good. I’ve tried Burt’s Bees shampoo before and it made my hair gross. There are better natural shampoos.
Hi there..if i have quite oily hair with very thin hair especially at the crown area, which shampoo do you think suitable for me? I considering kiehl’s but i dont know if the performance okay or not..n i’m from malaysia
Thanks. ?
Can you get Phyto range in Malaysia? They have some good products for thinning hair.
I am using biotique bio green daily fresh purifying shampoo but my hair is not reducing tell me please.
