DIY Beauty: Himalaya rock salt scrub gift idea
When I was in college, I used to make my female classmates some crafty stuff for Valentine’s Day. It was fun, especially knowing how they would all go ga-ga over the simple handmade items. So if you’re planning to give some simple items this Valentine’s, here’s an idea for you – bottles of Himalaya rock salt scrub! They’re easy to make, cost very little, and you can really make them look quite pretty.
Beautiful natural salt
I think homemade bath items are safe enough because they’re not like stuff that might not work on faces. And you can of course choose other sort of scrub ingredients from your kitchen – like sugar, sea salt or epsom salt. The only reason I chose Himalaya rock salt is because they look very pretty on their own, and you don’t have to add any sort of coloring. Although I have used food coloring in my recipes, I am not really fond of them because they do leave a stain.
Minerals work well for cleansing
Himalaya rock salt are not only beautiful to look at, but scrubbing with the minerals in this crystal mineral salt provides cleansing and make one feel refreshed and revitalized. It’s good as a body scrub or just a foot scrub. But because this is salt, hence, it is not great if your friend has any skin tearing or open wounds.
Easy recipe
Here’s a simple recipe modified from the epsom salt bath scrub recipe I’ve recommended sometime back:
– a cupful of Himalaya rock salt
– three drops of your favorite essential oil
– three to five drops of Jojoba oil
– one tablespoon of baking soda (optional)
Blend the ingredients together and store them in a clear container. Add a ribbon or something pretty and you’re ready to give it away!
Make a few bottles for under $5
The best thing is that the packet of Himalaya rock salt, which costs just a few dollars, can make me like five bottles to give away. All I need to make sure I have enough bottles and pretty ribbons. And here’s another idea to add to the salt scrub: a potpourri with some nice scented herbs!

Why do you buy the Himalaya rock salt from?
Ooooh~ Here in NZ it is not cheap to buy Himalaya salt, so I might skip that. But they do enhance the natural flavour of food better than normal table salt or sea salt!!! Since they are full of minerals, I will continue to eat them rather than using them on my skin ?
Coincidentally, I use this salt for cooking! Food does taste better!
They taste better? Then i need to find some, ASAP. I love brown sugar scrub as opposed to salt scrub… so yeah i’m going to eat these salt too
Haha…I get goodies from them too. ?
I bought this awhile back…think it’s from Finest.
The bigger size rock salt are not cheap if I remember correctly but this one is definitely under $5…can’t remember exact pricing though. Find they make soup sweeter…more flavorful.
Yeah, think it makes the food tastier than the normal salt. But sea salt isn’t too bad too.
I find salt scrub good for foot in particular. Sugar I love too…just that I’m always worried about attracting ants.
hi Sesame…awesome!! himalayan salts are really beautiful…great that you get all that in Singapore ?
Yes, lovely and good for the tastebuds too. ?
What a lovely and cute salt!!!
I love to use it everyday
My skin will itch like mad if i use salt as scrub, but not sugar scrub though. Thankfully my tongue never itch when i eat it or life will be completely bland…
Might be too much to use daily…keep usage to around 3 times a week maximum. Salt can be drying for skin too if used excessively.
Oh…I see and I wonder why. But makes an interesting topic for me to do some research into. ?
i would like to know where to get this himalaya rock salt too. what is this “Finest” you speak of? is it ntuc fairprice finest??
Yes it is.
