Rebound on a trampoline for health & beauty

So what’s the exercise that I’ve been doing as mentioned in yesterday’s post? Well, I’ve been rebounding on a mini trampoline at home. Actually the same time I started my detox, I started rebounding on my gym ball and it was later that I finally bought a mini trampoline. It was a little tedious initially and I only managed 10 minutes each time but gradually, I was able to increase to half an hour each day while watching some TV programs. And you know what’s the best types of programs to watch while doing this exercise? Sitcoms involving evil mother-in-laws! Those plots really make me mad and bouncing with a lot of gutso! Haha…

Stimulates the flow of lymph fluid
Anyway, the reason I picked up rebounding is because it’s a low impact exercise that allows me to keep fit within my home. I can rebound on the mini trampoline any time of the day and I don’t have to perspire under the hot sun. So I save both my time and my skin! But most important of all, I found out that rebounding stimulates the flow of lymph fluid through the lymphatic system. This is because bouncing on a trampoline uses three powerful forces – gravity, acceleration and deceleration – and the change in gravitational forces allows for greater blood flow and this increases the amount of waste and toxins flushed from the body.

Provides beauty benefits
I also found out that rebounding can strengthen every cell in our body. As such, this can help firm our skin and increase its elasticity over time. In addition, this exercise can tone our body and help rid cellulite plus increase metabolism and fight fatigue. I can’t say about the beauty benefits yet but I’m pretty certain it’s giving me more energy as I don’t feel so tired on a daily basis.

Where to get mini trampolines
You can get a mini trampoline from the bigger sports shop for between S$100 – S$150, depending on the quality and brand. I bought mine at a sports shop at Parkway Parade and it cost me S$100. It can take up to over 80kg of weight and so far, it’s serving me well.

If you’re interested to find out more about the benefits of rebounding on a trampoline, I suggest you listen to the explanation from Hans Gruenn, MD, expert in Longevity Medicine in this video I’ve posted.

wow, this is good. Do you bounce in the house? We wouldn’t hit the ceiling right?

  2. s. says:

same question as Jyoan.. dont u hit the ceiling?

  3. Mich says:

I live in the flat. will it disturb my neighbours downstairs? Trampoline sounds fun!

  4. sesame says:

No, it’s not noisy but depending on the quality, I understand some may be squeaky. Mine is okay so far.

  5. sesame says:

Haha…no unless you jump really high.

  6. sesame says:

Yes, I bounce in a room. Cos it’s a mini trampoline, the bounce effect won’t take you too high.

  7. AtelierGal says:

how heavy is the mini trampoline? I’ve always wanted one and Milo & I could do with some major bouncing ?

  8. sesame says:

Not too heavy but if you’re thinking in terms of transport, you might need some help as the item is quite big. I know some stores offer delivery services.

But the surface area is quite small for two of you to bounce together. Chances of you stepping on Milo or stripping over him are very high!

  9. zhenling says:

i jump around on the bed sometimes for fun. i didn’t know it counts as exercise!

  10. ann says:

I’m intrigued!!! If only I had a bigger house, i’ll love to give this a try.

  11. sesame says:

I know what you mean. Actually, it’s like skipping or jumping, just that because you use a trampoline, the landing for your feet won’t be so hard.

  12. sesame says:

It doesn’t take up that much space. I leave it as a permanent feature in a room but you can always park it by the wall.

  13. pf1123 says:

Wow…I didn’t know bouncing around is a good exercise. hahaha…

  14. Cheryl says:

I really got into rebounding a few years ago. It really did help with weight loss and energy levels! Do you do exercises with yours or do you just do the plain bouncing?

  15. AtelierGal says:

I really want to see how Milo tries to bounce on that thing lol

  16. kiwi says:

Rebounding on the trampoline is better than skipping right? Because we would then land on a soft surface instead, so the impact and pressure on our knees wouldn’t be that great??

I want 1! But it’s kind of expensive and I don’t have space for it. T_T

  17. sesame says:

Yes, you’re right! It’s a low impact exercise and it’s easier on our knees and feet. In fact, anyone can do this because it’s possible to bounce lightly.

  18. sesame says:

I just bounce mostly but do try to do some aerobic movements for variety. Still, I find bouncing easier. It took me awhile to get going to half an hour. In the beginning, it was tough even bouncing for just 10 mins.

  19. sesame says:

I did come across this many years ago but I never took it seriously. I needed to exercise and considered various options before deciding on this one. A lot of times, I buy equipment and then end up not using them. This one is good as it’s quite enjoyable to do once you get the hang of it.

  20. Natalja says:

So thue. I’ve signed up for a “boot camp” a week ago to get myself in “bikini ready” shape and we do a lot of various jumping. Not really for the skin but for a weight loss. And it’s harder then it looks. Drinking A LOT of water also helps to speed up flashing of toxins. So get that water bottle ready too. ?

  21. sesame says:

Oh you went for a boot camp? So interesting! I wish we have something like that here. The closest for me is our neighboring country and they have detox program too.

  22. Amarise says:

I’ve been interested in rebounding as well, just waiting for funds to get a good brand with a stabilizing bar. Seriously though jumping or moreso bouncing in the air has got to be one of the most refreshingly uplifting thing just like dancing can be. Of course as a workout, it takes a bit of effort to build a resistance to ‘perform’ longer. Water Aerobics is similar in concept as giving your body a good workout with less stress on the bones. But my goodness did I feel like I was smacked into a wall afterwards. Lol!

  23. sesame says:

I had thought it would be very easy but boy, I was so wrong. It’s like any other sports and needs persistence. I’m glad I can take it to 30 mins now…but I doubt I can do longer.

  24. sharon says:

I think this is a great idea, when we don’t have time to go to the gym or the pool (although I love swimming), it is a second best option we can do it at our home. Is anyone interested to go for a bulk buy, a rebounding tram with stabilizer? We’ll need to get the brand tho.

  25. loveless says:

    hi sesame,
trampoline jumping is on my recommended daily activities/exercise list from my therapist. actually it’s the cheapest and most convenient option, since the alternatives are horse-riding and scuba-diving.

could you share some tips about what to look out when shopping for a tramp? I’m thinking of getting one myself, maybe the same one you got since it’s working out for you.Perhaps you could email me privately the shop and the brand you got so I can go down and take a look myself. Thanks in advance.

  26. sesame says:

I’m not so sure about the criteria but I think you have to look in terms of the weight it can take and if it’s too squeaky when jumped on. I didn’t test mine when I bought it but fortunately, it’s not making loud squeaks. There are 36 springs and can take over 80kg of weight.

I bought it at this shop called “Galleon Sports” which is located on 3rd or 4th storey at Parkway. It’s the cheapest and has no brand. Another we checked at the ground floor or basement is $150 and if I remember correctly, was Reebok.

  27. jayie says:

wow it never occurred to me to buy a trampoline for exercising! It’s such a great idea! Thanks Sesame, for your post. I was comtemplating a treadmill but they are so expensive and I so hated running and jogging. I went cycling for a while to try to lose weight but I dun think cycling works very well. Skipping creates so much noise at home. A trampoline sounds fun compared to them! Jumping is no doubt tiring but as you said, there are many benefits. Gonna buy one soon! Thanks so much!

  28. sesame says:

I’m glad this entry is useful to you. The trampoline does squeak but it’s not noisy so I like it very much. I’ve tried buying some exercise equipment in the past but never managed to sustain working out on them for too long. But this is a keeper!

  29. jayie says:

I went Aibi to check out their trampoline… they are selling at $138 for one that can take up to 130kg. But they do not provide free delivery. ?
So I did not buy… gonna try Velocity to check out other alternatives! ?

  30. sesame says:

That’s a really good deal! Wow…I wonder if the size is a lot bigger than mine cos if it can take more weight, it must have more springs.

  31. jayie says:

Is it a good deal? I thought it was more costly than yours so I didn’t buy. haha Is the additional weight allowance really a plus factor? ?

  32. sesame says:

Yeah, it sounds like a good deal cos mine is $100 but can only take over 80kg with 36 springs. Well, the additional weight is for people who are heavy. If I had come across this AIBI one, I would have gotten it instead cos my husband can bounce on it.

  33. Lily says:

This is an awesome exercise equipment. This is definitely good for your body. I would like to have something like this at home. This is a very helpful post.

  34. Shalini says:

Hi I wanted to check with you if you are still using your rebounder and if you have heard of the Newlife Rebounder. Its priced at $173 SGD. Which brand would you recommend ? Thanks very much.

  35. Sesame says:

I’ve just started to rebound again but very slowly. I’m not too sure about brands though. I got mine at around $100 from a sports shop at Parkway Parade years ago. I didn’t test enough to know the difference though.

  36. Anna says:

Is your rebounder made with steel spring or bungee cords?

  37. Sesame says:

    Steel spring.

  38. Mini trampoline says:

Many thanks for your article. I got my trampoline last night (and yes it is difficult to assemble the springs part) but so worth it!!! If you have a hard time assembling your trampoline, Let search in youtube how to put the springs in with a screw driver. I held mine down while my friend used a screwdriver to force them in. It does take strength but a screwdriver helped TONS.

  39. Melinda Cox says:

Rebounding on a trampoline is so much fun. It is the best exercise for our body. Love it.
