Sukin Organic Foaming Facial Cleanser

sukin organic foaming facial cleanserThose in Singapore may have noticed that Watson’s has started to bring in quite a number of natural and organic skincare products from Trilogy, Lavera, Yes To Carrot, and Sukin Organics.  I’ve been particularly pleased to find Sukin Organics really affordable and decided to test out two of their products.  The first in review here is Sukin Organic Foaming Facial Cleanser.

All skincare products from Sukin Organics are said to use only 100% natural active ingredients and contain no sodium lauryl sulphate, artificial fragrances, petrochemicals, harsh detergents, animal derivatives, mineral oil and parabens.

So Sukin Organic Foaming Facial Cleanser has been described as a gentle, non-drying foaming cleanser to remove makeup, surface grime and oils.  It is gentle alright and doesn’t foam that much compared to other foaming cleansers I’ve used before, but it does a good job of keeping my face squeaky clean from the grime and dirt.  It isn’t drying for my skin and my face actually feels soft and supple after each wash.

But if I were to use it with a face full of foundation without using any cleansing oil or lotion to remove my makeup first, I would need to wash my face twice to get rid of the makeup totally.  It doesn’t quite remove eye makeup totally either.  You definitely need to use some makeup remover or cleansing oil to do that first.  This isn’t a big problem for me because I always double cleanse with makeup on anyway.

I love the smell of this stuff.  It has a combination of aroma-therapeutic oils of tangerine, mandarin, lavender and vanilla extract and the first two is probably what hit my senses.  So this makes a really refreshing facial wash.

Sukin Organic Foaming Facial Cleanser comes in a dark brown plastic bottle and cost S$12.95 for 125ml.  I would say it’s affordable for an organic skincare range and I’m really pleased with the results.   What I like most about it is that it delivers exactly what the other big brand cleansers does in the market, yet it doesn’t contain all the harsh chemicals and cost much less.  I would definitely be buying this again!

Emilia: I’m glad you like it. I’m loving most of their stuff I’m using…

  2. Yihuan says:

watson’s having a sale now! it now costs 13.95 for two bottles of sukin’s foaming facial cleanser!

Yihuan: Yes, I bought them! ?

  3. Claire says:

Is this product suitable for oily and acne prone skin?what type of facial wash and moisturizer do you recommend?

Claire: It works for me and I have oily t-zone. I ran through the ingredient list and couldn’t really find anything that is comedogenic but I may have missed it. For a list of ingredients that can clog pores and are hence not advisable for acne proned skin, check out my entry: https://www.vivawoman.net/2008/07/16/what-ingredients-can-clog-your-pores/

Because I do not have acne, it’s a bit hard to recommend products. However, I read many suggesting using really gentle cleansers like Cetaphil (but some pple absolutely hate this stuff. Try reading this and what the gals with acne said about it: https://www.vivawoman.net/2008/06/18/most-gentle-facial-cleanser-with-sls/

Don’t over wash your face as your skin can also generate more oil when it’s too dry.

Well, maybe I can try the shower gel. Is it expensive?

  5. Shei says:

Dear Viva Woman, i was hoping that you could tell me if the night cream is one of the available products in Singapore. i’m travelling from Australia on a flight that only allows carry-on, and am having problems fitting my Sukin night cream into the 20×20 cm bag along with other products, so i was hoping to be able to purchase it in Singapore to save me a lot of hassle. Also, do you know if Singapore stores stock Miessence Lemon toothpaste?
    Thanks!
BTW, I’ve been using Sukin for a year and a half now, and my skin’s never been better. I’m very glad that you’re able to get it in Singapore too!
    Cheers
    Shei

Shei: Sukin night cream is available at Watsons. Get it from the bigger Watsons like those in the major department stores. I haven’t seen the toothpaste you mentioned. I’ll run a check and see if I can find anything. Will update in a day or two.

  6. Shei says:

    You’re lovely! Thanks!!

Shei: I couldn’t find the toothpaste you want in the stores here. I did a search and realized that this seems to be only available online.

  7. Shei says:

It’s ok, thanks for looking it up for me – if you’re looking for an organic toothpaste, that one’s the best I’ve tried – it’s the yummiest and most refreshing.
    Cheers, Vivawoman!

Shei: Yes, I was very keen on it after searching some info on it. May give it a try if I get a chance. Btw, thanks to searching info on this toothpaste that I found a sunscreen – UV Natural. Have you tried it? Just placed an order and hope it’ll be suitable.

  8. Roxy says:

Can someone give me assurance that this item is really ok for people with oily skin and i wont break out? Has anyone tried to remove makeup first with the Sukin Cream cleanser, then followed by the foaming cleanser? How is it?

  9. sesame says:

No one can give you assurance…not even dermatologists. Your skin can break out due to a number of factors, and majority could be internal. If you use the cream cleanser first and then the foaming, you’re double cleansing and that’ll clear most of the impurities.

  10. Kristy Pearce says:

I am concerned about SUKIN Products for the below reason and there is a lot of negative information on this product:
    PEG
    Polyethylene Glycol
PEG-6, PEG-150 Petrochemical; water-soluble polymer Toothpaste, skin cream, sexual lubricants, cosmetics, cleansers Surfactants (detergents), cleansing agents, emulsifiers (thickening agents), skin conditioners and humectants (moisturizer)
    Side effects
Contain harmful impurities, according to a report by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) committee that was published in the International Journal of Toxicology, including:
-Ethylene oxide: Ethylene oxide increases the incidences of uterine and breast cancers and of leukemia and brain cancer, according to experimental results reported by the National Toxicology Program.
    -1,4-dioxane: a carcinogen
-Polycyclic aromatic compounds (PAHs): Known to increase the risk of breast cancer.
-Heavy metals including Lead, Iron, Cobalt, Nickel, Cadmium, Arsenic

  11. sesame says:

I don’t see so many of the toxic ingredients you listed on the ingredient. Has there been a change?

  12. Anon says:

This has got my attention awhile back and was the reason why I switched to organics products. I have very sensitive skin, so I try as much as possible to avoid harsh chemicals. Then I came across an article about the natural products containing such ingredients. I actually have been using Sukin Botanical Body Wash and only realized it recently that it contains PEG-150. I must say that I was quite shocked.

But then again, I’m no expert, I don’t know what’s right or wrong.

  13. Miss Vinny says:

Errr… I think there are various forms of Polyethylene Glycol and a search in CosmeticDatabase reveals many differing results with varying toxicity. That said, I’m not too concerned as I thought Australian products tend to have a certain standard of quality?

  14. sesame says:

It depends…the sunscreens are better regulated I believe.

  15. belinda says:

is this product suitable for dry combination skin?

  16. Sesame says:

If your skin is dry, you might want to try their cream cleanser instead.
